(CNN) — As Vice President Joe Biden was leaving the House floor following the debt ceiling vote, he bumped into Marine Cpl. Todd Love and wound up inviting him over for breakfast Tuesday.
Todd was wounded by an improvised explosive device in Sangin, Afghanistan, in October 2010 and lost both his legs and an arm. He is a patient at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he is being treated for his injuries.
Biden joked with Love, who had a bright smile, then told a small group in the hallway, “I’m gonna keep my daughter away from this young man.”
Biden invited Love to the White House Tuesday morning, then reconsidered and decided to make it a little more intimate. “Want to come over to my house for breakfast instead?” Biden asked.
They agreed to an 8 a.m. breakfast at the Naval Observatory, the vice president’s residence,. Biden promised he would have “eggs and other stuff too.”
“Pancakes?” joked Love, and Biden said, “Anything.”
Love was brought to the Capitol Monday by Capitol Hill tour guide Bert Caswell, who often volunteers his own time to bring wounded warriors to the Capitol.
Love said he also got a hearty handshake from House Speaker John Boehner and, about a hundred other members.
