FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Saturday, May 19th Walk for the Wounded and 5K Warriors Run Canceled – Ceremonies Moved to Springton Lake Middle School

Media, PA – After several days of rain, and more predicted for today and tomorrow, Operation First Response (OFR) was notified by Rose Tree Park authorities that the Park would not be able to host Saturday’s Walk for the Wounded and Warriors 5K Run due to public safety and parking issues.

According to Nick Constantino, a senior representative for OFR, “We are extremely disappointed that weather has forced the cancellation of all outdoor activities that are part of our largest annual fundraiser. However, our official ceremonies with MC Nicole Brewer from CBS 3 TV, the Philly Phanatic and special guest Military Speakers will take place at 11am at nearby Springton Lake Middle School located at 1900 N. Providence Road in Media, Constantino notes, adding “We encourage people to join us at the Springton Lake school where there will be some vendors as well as a 45 minute program of tributes and notable presentations.”

This is the first time in 11 years that OFR’s Annual Walk and Run, their largest fundraiser of the year, has faced insurmountable weather challenges. “On behalf of our entire organization and all of its volunteers and sponsors who led the movement to make this year’s event the most successful ever – we thank the county, its officials and the many thousands of people who have supported us at this event each year,” Constantino said, adding that he hopes people will join them at the Middle School for an opportunity to meet some of the heroes who have benefitted from the funds raised at the Walk and Run over the past 10 years.

“I live in Delaware County,” Constantino notes, “and I’m proud that we have hosted this state-wide event since 2007 and raised more than $2,500,000 for our nation’s wounded heroes and their families.”

Operation First Response allocates more than 97% of all dollars raised for medically related services and assistance for wounded veterans and their families. NOTE: There will be volunteers at Rose Tree Park on Saturday morning to direct people to the Springton Lake Middle School for the official 2018 WALK and RUN ceremonies.
