Walk for the Wounded Press Release

For Immediate Release:
BE A HERO TO A HERO! Register now for the 12th Annual Walk for the Wounded and Warriors 5K Run on May 18th

Saturday, May 18th Pennsylvania’s 12th Annual WALK FOR THE WOUNDED & WARRIORS 5K RUN will take place at Rose Tree Park in Media, PA from 9am to 3pm. This annual Family Fun Day has grown bigger every year and benefits Operation First Response (OFR) which has given financial assistance to more than 19,600 wounded veterans in need of aid to support their medical, transportation and general living expenses while dealing with life-altering injuries while in service to their country.
Last year marked 11 years of Delco hosting WALK FOR THE WOUNDED & WARRIORS 5K RUN, and when the final tally was taken, the event had raised more than 2.5 million dollars in just 11 years. This year, one of the recipients of those dollars, Military Spouse Dianna Angstadt, will give the keynote speech.
Hear the moving story of Diana Angstadt, the widow of SMSgt Gregory Angstadt, who recently passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 49. He left behind three children, Cody, Cole and Caitlin. He dedicated his life to serving his country and received numerous medals and commendations. But upon his death, his own bravery would soon be matched by Diana, who faced unexpected and life-altering financial and insurance challenges. Operation First Response was proud to assist the Angstadt family.
MC for the event is Ukee Washington from CBS 3 TV who will be joined by hundreds of military veterans and everybody’s favorite mascot, the Phillie Phanatic, who hasn’t missed a single WALK since the first in 2007!
As in previous years, the day will boast a festival-like atmosphere, starting with a Warrior Escort of over one hundred motorcycles and classic cars and there will be great Live music by the band, Resilient. After meeting during intense physical rehabilitation at Walter Reed hospital, this ‘band of brothers’ has developed a huge following as they perform nationwide – each committed to the music that continues to heal them.
DJ Partytime is back, along with Rock Climbing, Zip-Lining and Bungee Jumping. Plus there will be a Tribute to a fallen hero, Gunnery SGT Aaron Michael Kenefick, and a military vehicle display that may include a Chinook Ch47 Helicopter! Freddy’s is back making delicious sundaes, plus tasty food items at family-friendly prices.

Created in partnership with the Destination Delco Tourism Bureau, WALK FOR THE WOUNDED and the WARRIORS 5K Run has become one of the county’s biggest events of the year, bringing thousands of walkers, runners, families and veterans to Delaware County from all over the Mid-Atlantic.
“This event is a major fundraiser for OFR,” acknowledges Nick Constantino, a senior representative with the organization. “But you forget that pretty quickly because everyone who has ever attended the event, everyone who has come to walk, run or just come to shake hands with all the veterans who are here – knows it’s all about heart!”
“Many veterans attending the event, have benefited from donations raised at this event he adds, “their scars, whether visible or not, have moved people to tears. I urge everyone reading this to come to see for your selves, how everyday people become heroes to men and women who have sacrificed so much on our behalf. OFR couldn’t do what we do, without you.”
